Category:Songs about the Doctor Who universe is a subcategory of Category:Real world. It organizes songs which are about the Doctor Who universe. Such songs were recorded as tie-ins to Doctor Who and related series, but they never appeared in an episode. Songs actually featured within episodes should go in one of three other subcategories:
- If the song originated in the DWU, and appeared to be heard by characters in the narrative — like "The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon" — it belongs in Category:Songs.
- If it was in a DWU story and appeared to be heard by characters in the narrative, but originated in the real world — like "Toxic" — it's best put in Category:Songs from the real world. If purely instrumental, like "Colonel Bogey March", it should go in Category:Instrumental compositions from the real world.
- If it was featured on the soundtrack for an episode, but not heard by characters in the narrative — like "Song for Ten" or the Doctor Who theme — it's a part of Category:Incidental and theme music
