Moses of Tyre

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Master Moses of Tyre was a Knight Templar of Jewish origins during the reign of King Richard I of England. He was originally from Tyre, as indicated by the name he went by in Europe. He was a well-travelled scholar and herbalist.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

During the Crusades, Moses once saved Henri d'Arrée's life thanks to his medical knowledge, with the two remaining friends ever after. At some point, Moses investigated the stories about the "Greek fire", a formula for a substance that the Byzantines allegedly possessed, which was capable of burning underwater. Although he collected and memorised multiple similar but subtly different recipes, he never actually tried to prepare the substance.

After the end of the Crusade, Moses was positioned at a Templar outpost not far from Earl Godfrey's castle with D'Arrée. When Godfrey's wife Maud was taken ill, D'Arrée brought Moses to the castle so he could help heal her if necessary. This proved fortunate, as Godfrey's herbalist Osbert had disappeared while foraging for the ingredients for a potion. It soon turned out that Krynoids had arrived in the area, with one taking over Osbert and the other a wild wolf.

After curing the Lady Maud, Moses of Tyre proved instrumental to defeating the monsters, attempting to create Greek fire at last so it could be used to destroy the second of the two Krynoids even though it had partially submerged itself in the moat. Moses's dabbling ended up creating a new, even more explosive substance. Observing the creature's tactics as it attacked the walls of Earl Godfrey's castle, Moses also predicted that it would collapse the outer wall completely instead of simply knocking a breach through the bottom of it; as such, he was able to order the catapult moved onto a different battlement and positioned to fire at the inner courtyard, thus allowing the Earl's men to hurl Moses's concoction at the Krynoid after it indeed broke down the wall.
