Robert Devereaux

Robert Devereaux was the Earl of Essex and former advisor to Queen Elizabeth I. He was cast out of court for getting peace in Ireland rather than pursuing a war and put under house arrest for this. He looked after Ian Chesterton after he was injured. He didn't want a rebellion started but would happily lead one if one started. He tried to stop the rioters and told the people that it was Robert Cecil who was the one that made their lives bad not the queen. The queen ordered his execution. (AUDIO: The Hollow Crown)
