Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- There is a human heart, the remains of a sacrificial ritual, close to the sarcophagus of Yetaxa.
- The Aztecs refer to the solar eclipse as the Day of Darkness.
- It is noted that the four time travellers leave the Aztecs to their "ultimate fate" at the hands of the Spanish conquistadores.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- This adaptation predated the full-length novelisation of The Aztecs from Target Books by almost five years.
- The Aztec garden is called the "Garden of the Aged" instead of the Garden of Peace as in the televised story.
- Unlike in the television story where the First Victim commits suicide by jumping to his death after being told by Tlotoxl he would retain his honour if he died, in this version the First Victim breaks free of his captors and accidentally falls to his death after trying to escape across the rooftops.
- This story incorrectly credits "William Russel" as playing Ian instead of William Russell and "John Crocket" as the director instead of John Crockett.
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- At the beginning it is noted that the tomb in which the TARDIS lands is clearly not the 20th century, alluding to the end of the previous story PROSE: The Keys of Marinus [+]Loading...["The Keys of Marinus (short story)"] where the Doctor intended to return Ian and Barbara to their own time.
