Summary

Midway through regeneration, the Doctor looks back on their past lives before becoming the Thirteenth Doctor.

• This story is comprised of the linking material of The Many Lives of Doctor Who.
• It was Jessica Burton who came up with the preamble of The Many Lives of... with the Doctor Who logo serving to finish the rest of the title, according to Richard Dinnick.
• With the exception of the final page, which shows the Thirteenth Doctor standing on the surface of Desolation at some point during The Ghost Monument, this story takes place during the Twelfth Doctor's regeneration in TV: Twice Upon a Time.
• The Doctor comments that "People are going to call you Thirteen. The Thirteenth Doctor", about his next incarnation, but also says that "You're not". This is due to the existence of the War Doctor and the Meta-Crisis Doctor, which makes her the fifteenth incarnation.

At the end of his life, the Twelfth Doctor faced his darkest hour: losing beloved companions Bill and Nardole in an impossible stand-off against the Cybermen, and losing Missy to herself, not long after.

Mortally wounded in battle, he could see no reason to go on.

He was willing to die a final death.

But a surprise, time-twisting encounter with his oldest self, the first Doctor, led him to recover his desire to go on - to start again.

It's time for change. For regeneration.

And the Doctor has a few things to say to the Doctor that is to come.

For in his warren of memories and the many lives past lies the key to a brilliant future…
