Wooden Cyberman

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

The wooden Cyberman was a unique weapons-grade Cyberman created by the Cybermen to infiltrate Christmas during the Siege of Trenzalore.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Three-hundred years into the Siege of Trenzalore, the Cybermen created the wooden Cyberman to bypass the force field surrounding Trenzalore and infiltrate Christmas, intending to either capture or kill the Eleventh Doctor so as to stop him from allowing the Time Lords to return to N-Space from the pocket universe they had been frozen into at the end of the Last Great Time War.; the force field, which had been enforced and maintained by the Church of the Papal Mainframe, prevented highly advanced technology from entering Trenzalore's atmosphere, and so the Cybermen, like all the other species in orbit of Trenzalore, could not directly attack the planet through conventional means.

After arriving on Trenzalore's surface, the wooden Cyberman reached Christmas and was accidentally discovered by Barnable while the boy was playing blind man's buff. Whilst Barnable ran away and informed the Doctor that "there [was] another one", the wooden Cyberman began attacking the town with the flamethrower in its Cyber wrist blaster. Shortly after, the Doctor emerged from the town's Clock Tower to confront the Cyberman.

Raising their weapons in a standoff, the Doctor used his sonic screwdriver before the wooden Cyberman could fire its wrist blaster. The Doctor stated to the wooden Cyberman that it had sent a signal from his sonic screwdriver to the Cyberman's wrist blaster to reverse its polarity and fire back at the wooden Cyberman; as Trenzalore was surrounded by a Truth Field, he could not be lying. After the Doctor encouraged the Cyberman to scan his sonic screwdriver and verify the signal, the wooden Cyberman confirmed that the signal had been broadcast, and so reversed its wrist blaster and fired it directly into its chest. The Doctor then revealed that his sonic screwdriver did not actually work on wood, having instead used the Truth Field to trick the wooden Cyberman into believing that the signal would actually reverse its weapon without mentioning that such a signal shouldn't have worked. Shortly before it shut down completely, the Doctor ordered the wooden Cyberman to inform the other Cybermen in Trenzalore's orbit that "the Doctor stays", before pushing the Cyberman's incinerated body to the ground with his cane. Characteristics[[edit] | [edit source]]

The wooden Cyberman was nearly identical in appearance to the weapons-grade Cybermen of the Cyber Legions that fought in the Cyber Wars of the 250th Millennium, (PROSE: Ghost in the Machine, TV: Nightmare in Silver) albeit with a Cyber-body made out of weathered wood instead of steel. The power cell located in its chest was yellow, as was its mouth slit when it spoke, instead of those features being blue like the regular Cybermen of its design. The wooden Cyberman's Cyber wrist blaster was shaped like a large, flat arrowhead with a small, circular flashing light on its left-hand side, unlike the cuboid-shaped wrist blasters of the regular Cybermen of the wooden Cyberman's design. This wrist blaster also fired a flamethrower instead of energy bolts; due to its body being comprised of wood, the wooden Cyberman's own wrist blaster could incinerate its power cell, thereby terminating itself. The wooden Cyberman's voice was also more raspy than most Cybermen, and it uttered the catchphrase "incinerate" instead of "delete". (TV: The Time of the Doctor)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

An inanimate wooden Cyberman is featured in the parodical comic story Wooden Acting, a WeLoveTITANS backup comic strip which is not considered a valid source on this Wiki. In this story, the wooden Cyberman was an artpiece which the Doctor deemed silly.

Doctor Who: Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

Wooden Cybermen are among the Cyberman enemies used in the mobile game Doctor Who: Legacy.

In the story of Legacy, the Doctors and their companions face the wooden Cyberman at Christmas while travelling through a time storm focused on 25 December.
