The Advanced Research Project was a scientific research project conducted by Ulysses, Larna, and Saldaamir. (PROSE: Unnatural History, The Gallifrey Chronicles)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Eighth Doctor remembered being a Loomling in his family House listening to his father and Saldaamir talking about wars and "great projects." (PROSE: Unnatural History)

Ulysses, Penelope Gate, and Saldaamir studied the temporal cicatrix in the Shoal because it was useful for the project they were working on. During this time, they met Larna. When Marnal interrupted their work, they used his TARDIS's telepathic circuits to wipe his memory and deposited him on Earth in 1883 so he would not be able to jeopardise the project. (PROSE: The Gallifrey Chronicles)

In the 1980s the Doctor helped Daniel Joyce avert a danger created by one of the experiments.

In 2001 Joyce and Larna used the cicatrix in San Francisco to conduct experiments for the Project and test their mathematical conclusions. Joyce described the Project as "cosmic stuff". By that time, they had been issuing grants to the Society for several years in exchange for "appropriate biological data" from their expeditions. (PROSE: Unnatural History)

The Advanced Research Department conducted secret research at St Oscar's University on Dellah. (PROSE: Oh No It Isn't!, et al.) In Logopolis, the problem of maintaining the Charged Vacuum Emboitements was handled by the Advanced Research Unit. The Fourth Doctor described this as "the Advanced Research Project." (TV: Logopolis, PROSE: Logopolis)
