Alf was a young boy that Nancy agreed to look after on the streets of London during the Blitz in 1941. He was brought to her by another boy, Jim. He had been evacuated from London to stay on a farm, but was abused by a man there. Like all the children in Nancy's care, he had then fled back home to London. (TV: The Empty Child)
