Archery was the skill of using a bow and arrow or a crossbow.
The Third Doctor used a crossbow to shoot the control from Irongron to stop the Robot Knight. Hal the Archer showed talent in archery, defeating Sontaran commander Linx by shooting an arrow into his probic vent with his longbow. (TV: The Time Warrior)
The Fourth Doctor displayed a proficiency with a crossbow during the Test of the Horda, having shot a rope to prevent his drop into a pit of Hordas; he said he had learnt the skill from William Tell. In the late 12th century, Robin Hood attended an archery contest at the castle of the Sheriff of Nottingham. He beat the Sheriff but then had to contend with the Twelfth Doctor, who was cheating by having his arrows lock on.
When the castle, which was a spacecraft, tried to take off, the Doctor, Robin and Clara Oswald used a bow together to fire a gold arrow at it, allowing it to survive until it reached orbit where it exploded. (TV: Robot of Sherwood)
Isabella, the queen of King Richard II of England, was a skilled archer. In 1400, she gave Vicki Pallister archery lessons at Sonning Palace. Isabella used her bow to save Ian Chesterton from a guard, shooting him before he could strike. In the Tabard Inn, she threatened Sir Robert de Wensley with a notched arrow, prompting him to flee. In 1638, Lady Peinforte created Nemesis - a statue of herself holding a bow and arrow. She used arrows to destroy two Cybermen, believing that the poison she had used was the killer, when it was actually the gold tips. (TV: Silver Nemesis)
