- Doctor Who stories Delta and the Bannermen, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Christmas Invasion (The Swordfighting Scene), The Doctor's Daughter (Tunnel Sequence), The Sound of Drums (Cafe Scene), and Last of the Time Lords (Beach Scene) had location filming in Barry.
- The Sarah Jane Adventures story, The Mad Woman in the Attic (TV story) was filmed down in the Barry Island Pleasure Park and Whitmore Bay to stand in for Danemouth.[1] It was also well known for being the main filming location of famed BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey and Series 3-5 of Being Human.
- Torchwood actor Luke Perry was born in Barry, as was writer Alastair Reynolds.
