The Boston Tea Party was an event which took place in Boston in 1773. It was part of a chain of events which led to the American Revolution.

It effectively started on 16 December 1773, when colonists protested against both British rule and British taxation policies. As many as 8,000 campaigners took over a ship, the Dartmouth, which had brought a consignment of East India Company tea to Boston, and emptied its cargo into the harbour: 342 casks containing over 90,000 lbs of tea, worth an estimated £10,000, were chucked into the water, with no other damage to people or property. These events inspired many other peaceful protests around the world. (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac)

The Ninth Doctor once told Rose Tyler he had participated in the Boston Tea Party. He lamented on the event as well as witnessing the fall of Troy and World War V when he was faced with death from the Gelth. (TV: The Unquiet Dead)

Barbara Wright mentioned the Boston Tea Party in her attempt to confuse the Daleks. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth)
