Individuals who took on the name of the Doctor were individuals who, however temporarily, adopted the title of "the Doctor" and the accompanying promise or ethos.
People in this category may be compared with individuals who claimed to be the Doctor, who more straightforwardly impersonated the Time Lord known as "the Doctor" as a deception rather than a true change of identity. However, in some cases, the two overlapped.
