Chatelaine was the title used by Thessalia, the caretaker of House Ixion. (PROSE: The Return of the King, The Book of the War) She carried it over to her leadership position in the Order of the Weal. While used by others after her death, Thessalia was the most notable individual to use the term. (PROSE: The Book of the War)
Before assigning her to the Order of the Weal, the Imperator offered Thessalia the role of "chatelaine of the citadel," but she refused. (PROSE: The Return of the King)

- Derived from the French châtelaine, chatelaine has multiple meanings in English, and can be used to describe the wife or female equivalent of a castellan. Castellan is a noted term in Time Lord society, and most Gallifreyan Castellans have been notably male.
