The Contingency Club, also known as the Contingency, was a London gentlemen's club built by the Red Queen around her spaceship.

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Having bet the Knave that she could overthrow Queen Victoria without using anachronistic technology, the Red Queen built the Contingency Club around her spaceship to gather great minds and influential people to help plant explosives beneath London. She employed Mr Peabody to mesmerise the members to overlook things and staffed the club with clones named Edward. Members included William Stonegood and Granville Wakefield.

The Knave sent George Augustus to infiltrate the club and force the Red Queen to concede the wager, but Mr Peabody refused him membership. The Fifth Doctor, Adric, Nyssa and Tegan Jovanka arrived in the club in the TARDIS and worked with Marjorie Stonegood, who was investigating the disappearance of her father, to thwart the Red Queen. Using Tegan's cassette player, the Doctor triggered the Red Queen's ship's hyperspace jump and destroyed the club, restoring the members to normal. (AUDIO: The Contingency Club)
