Continuity was an artificial intelligence that looked after Polly Wright after an accident with the TARDIS. They had to cure Polly when she was moving randomly through time and said that the First Doctor was severely injured. Allie Kay said that they killed his mother and all the others in the hospital. They were corrupted as it wanted to kill as they thought that all people were damaging the universe in some way. They realised that they must die to maintain the timelines.
