Check the behind the scenes section, the revision history and discussion page for additional comments on this article's title.
Designated Dalek Supreme Type 2 by the Dalek Survival Guide, (PROSE: Dalek Survival Guide) a distinct model of Dalek casing was identified as Type A by the Time Lords (PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual) as being used by the Dalek Supreme who oversaw the Mechonoid Incident as well as the Daleks' master plan leading to the Time Destructor Incident. (TV: The Chase, Mission to the Unknown, The Daleks' Master Plan)
Characteristics[[edit] | [edit source]]
By the time it ordered the execution of the First Doctor, the Black Dalek Leader operated a predominantly black casing with a silver middle section now with slats and blue sense globes like its silver Dalek subordinates. (TV: The Chase) Similarly, a bronze-type Imperial Guard Dalek in the aftermath of the Time War was predominantly black with a bronze middle section. (TV: The Parting of the Ways)

The Black Dalek[[edit] | [edit source]]
After the failure of the Dalek Earthforce in the 2150s Dalek invasion of Earth, the Daleks identified the First Doctor and determined the role he played in their defeat. By this point, the Daleks had dispensed with solar energy collection discs and enlarged Dalek fenders in favour of solar slats. (TV: The Chase) The Black Dalek, acting under direct orders from the Dalek Prime, (PROSE: The Chase) ordered an assassination squad to pursue the Doctor's TARDIS in a Dalek time machine and exterminate the occupants while the Black Dalek and the Dalek Prime awaited regular reports on the progress from Skaro. However, the squad failed. (PROSE: The Chase)
By one account, following the apparent loss of the original Black Dalek Leader, the Dalek Prime (PROSE: The Evil of the Daleks) was served by multiple Black Dalek Leaders with casings identical to the original Black Dalek during the Daleks' master plan. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe) Other "Black Dalek Leaders" were silver Daleks with black domes, (TV: The Evil of the Daleks) a distinguishing feature of Imperial Guard Daleks. (PROSE: Birth of a Legend)
Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]
This casing was the first of five Supreme Dalek models, preceding the New Dalek Paradigm of the post-Time War universe, which were identified by the Time Lords in their scrutiny of the Daleks' timeline and recorded in the Dalek Combat Training Manual, published during the Last Great Time War. The Time Lords, who believed these Supreme Daleks to all be different individuals, associated this model with the Mechonoid Incident and the Time Destructor Incident. (PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual)

Prop[[edit] | [edit source]]
The prop for the Black Dalek seen in The Chase, Mission to the Unknown and The Daleks' Master Plan was the same prop as used for the Black Dalek in The Dalek Invasion of Earth, which was used earlier in the same serial for the saucer commander, and one of the four originally constructed for use in The Daleks.[1]
The Black Dalek and the two other Daleks on the cover art for Daughter of the Gods were actually all sourced from the same Silver Dalek prop, photographed from different angles by Tom Saunders while on display at the Doctor Who Festival at This Planet Earth. The Supreme Dalek was then recoloured black to resemble its appearance in Master Plan. (VOR 128)
Merchandise[[edit] | [edit source]]
- A figurine of this Supreme Dalek was released with the first "Rare Dalek" issue of Doctor Who: Figurine Collection magazine.
Invalid sources[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Universal Databank identifies Dalek Supreme as an alternative title for multiple Black Dalek warlords, with one being associated with the 2150s Dalek invasion of Earth and the Mechonoid Incident. It is claimed that both Black Daleks and Gold Daleks were below the Emperor Dalek's Dalek Council.
- The Dalek Handbook's list of real world Dalek paradigms places the Supreme in a 1965-1967 paradigm with Imperial Guard Daleks/Black Dalek Leaders and the Silver Daleks.
