David James Oswald, also known as Dave, was the widower of Ellie Oswald and the father of Clara Oswald.

Biography[[edit] | edit source]

David James Oswald (TV: Death in Heaven) first met Ellie Ravenwood in 1981 after a leaf hit his face and she saved him from being run over by a car. They fell in love, married and had a baby called Clara, (TV: The Rings of Akhaten) who was born on 23 November 1986. (TV: Death in Heaven)

When Clara was nine years old, Dave took her on a trip to a tower block near Southport with a restaurant at the top. The restaurant had a solid clear glass floor, but Dave assured her it was "safe as houses". Two lads inside the restaurant started jumping up and down on the glass, shouting they were going to break it in "language [he] later said did not suit young ladies". (PROSE: Normality)

Dave and Ellie lived together until Ellie's death on 5 March 2005. He comforted Clara at the funeral. (TV: The Rings of Akhaten)

Years later, he spoke to the Eleventh Doctor on the telephone while Clara was sleeping. He was very cross with the British government, something the Doctor wrote several pages of notes on. (TV: The Bells of Saint John)

Dave once attended Christmas dinner with his mother, Linda, and Clara. Although he had previously briefed Clara about how to cook the Christmas turkey by telephone and email, she still had difficulty doing so. He was somewhat unsettled when the Doctor, masquerading as Clara's boyfriend, arrived for dinner naked. (TV: The Time of the Doctor) Clara had a picture of him holding her as a baby on her wall. (TV: Dark Water)

Personality[[edit] | edit source]

Dave's favourite James Bond movie was Live and Let Die. (COMIC: A Wing and a Prayer) According to a dream had by his daughter, Dave enjoyed golf and had a knack for bad timing. (TV: Last Christmas) Clara also said that he was a big fan of boxing, especially Sonny Lawson. (COMIC: Gangland)
