Devil birds were creatures that existed within the Slinths' dreamscapes.
Several devil birds menaced Lyan Berrace before being defeated by her fiancé Karith. Later, some flying Nymphs transformed into devil birds to attack the Fourth Doctor, Sharon Davies and others within Vernor Allen's dreamscape. The devil birds were visually similar to the Malevilus previously encountered by the Fourth Doctor in Doctor Who and the Iron Legion.
