History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Physical diaries[[edit] | [edit source]]

Diaries were typically physical notebooks. The Doctor had a Five Hundred Year Diary, (PROSE: The Three Paths, TV: The Power of the Daleks [+]Loading...["The Power of the Daleks (TV story)"]) later updated this to a Nine Hundred Year Diary, (TV: Doctor Who [+]Loading...["Doctor Who (TV story)"]) and later still to a Two Thousand Year Diary. (TV: The Girl Who Died [+]Loading...["The Girl Who Died (TV story)"])

Richard Haliwell's diary was placed in a time safe in the Doctor's TARDIS so he would have it earlier to use for reference. (PROSE: Imperial Moon [+]Loading...["Imperial Moon (novel)"])

Each time the Doctor and River Song met, she would compare her diary with his to see where they were in their relative time streams. (TV: The Impossible Astronaut [+]Loading...["The Impossible Astronaut (TV story)"], TV: Let's Kill Hitler [+]Loading...["Let's Kill Hitler (TV story)"], etc.)

Computer diaries[[edit] | [edit source]]

Professor Frederick Marius kept a computer diary at least during the time he acquired K9 Mark III. (PROSE: Tautology [+]Loading...["Tautology (short story)"])

Video diaries[[edit] | [edit source]]

P.R.O.B.E. director Giles kept case files on P.R.O.B.E.'s investigations in the form of short "video diaries" he recorded on a daily or near-daily basis, (WCShadows of Doubt [+]Loading...["Shadows of Doubt (webcast)"], etc.) which he then transmitted to Sir Andrew Williams so that they would double as reports. David Tennant is notable for having recorded video diaries throughout his original tenure playing the Doctor between 2005 and 2010. When he returned to the role for the 60th anniversary, he and Georgia Tennant recorded some more behind the scenes clips for social media and referred to them as video diaries.
