Eighth Doctor and Scarlette's wedding
In 1782, a wedding ceremony was held between the Eighth Doctor and Scarlette in the Church of Saint Simone on the island of St Belique.
The Doctor intended to wed a human to bind himself to the Earth and heal his sickness caused by the erasure of the Homeworld, although ultimately the wedding was insufficient to help his condition. Initially he was planned to marry Juliette Vierge, but months before the wedding she defected from the Henrietta Street House and joined Sabbath on the Jonah. Scarlette ultimately stepped in to fill Juliette's place.
The Doctor sent handwritten wedding invitations in bright red envelopes to thirteen organisations which he viewed as preserving ancient esoteric knowledge which had been scattered throughout humanity.
- The Order of Saint Francis of Medmenham, represented by Scarlette;
- "The Grand Lodge of British Freemasonry, 33rd Degree or Higher", represented by a large group including a Scottish Rite member;
- "The Church", represented by Robert Kemp;
- The Ereticy, represented by Katya and a Russian delegation from Catherine II;
- "The Personal Attention of Cardinal de Rohan", represented by a clownish Frenchman;
- "Family", represented by the Man with the Rosette;
- The Grand Lodge Temple of St Andrew's Trust, represented by the Virginian Mason Van Burgh;
- The Mayakai, represented by an aged survivor, though their invitation had been given to Sabbath, who employed Tula Lui;
- Mrs Gallacher's House of Flagellation, represented by Mrs Gallacher herself;
- A Chinese group, represented by Dr. Who;
- "The Followers or Family of Mr Mackandal of Saint-Domingue," represented by a group of Maroons led by Émondeur;
- An unknown faction; and
- "The Attention of the Service", officially absent but secretly represented by a Ratcatcher and a few others.
Sabbath was also invited to be the Doctor's best man, but after betraying the Doctor, he was disinvited. He instead appeared at the wedding by binding up the Frechman and taking his place in an ape mask.
Despite the Doctor's worsening sickness, the wedding took place as intended, with all thirteen delegations in attendance. At the moment that the Doctor and Scarlette kissed, all in the Church were transported into the Kingdom of Beasts, with the exception of Lisa-Beth Lachlan and Rebecca Macardle, who belonged to no delegation.
