Emmanuel Swan was the captain of a ship that was boarded by Red Jasper's pirates. He was tied to his own mast. Jem helped him to escape. When they caught up with Red Jasper's ship he stayed on the raft. He knew which of the Ruby Islands had the treasure. He thought an iguana was a dragon.
