Freda Mattingly
Professor Freda Mattingly was the lead archaeologist at the Archaeotech Dive Control Centre.

In the 1970s, Freda led the archaeological mission at the Archaeotech Dive Control Centre at Dunstanton Lake and was the first to enter the spacecraft found on the lake's bed. She encountered Defence Advocate 997 and recorded her conversation with it, unknowingly transferring its consciousness into her recording equipment and allowing it to go on to take over Johnny Repford's Ex-Cav suit.
Freda met the Third Doctor and Jo Grant when they came to the ship to investigate. She and Jo found themselves trapped there for a time due to the Prosecutor blocking their way, and found the Dastrons in suspended animation. Upon escaping, Freda and Repford suggested that UNIT destroy the ship with the Doctor and Mike Yates aboard, but this ultimately was not necessary. (AUDIO: Prisoners of the Lake)
