Nuclear fusion was used as a method of producing power by many species, sometimes with military applications.

Uses[[edit] | [edit source]]

Power source[[edit] | [edit source]]

A fusion reactor powered Davros's Imperial Dalek mothership as used during the Shoreditch Incident. (PROSE: Remembrance of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Remembrance of the Daleks (novelisation)"]) Kaldor City was likewise supplied in energy by a nuclear fusion reactor, which was powered by deuterium and tritium, and produced helium as a byproduct. Fusion naturally occurred in stars; a fusion scoop, also known as an energy scoop for fusion, was a means of accessing power by harvesting plasma from a star's surface. By the 42nd century fusions scoops were illegal. (TV: 42 [+]Loading...["42 (TV story)"])

Fusion turbos were located beneath the soil of the farm on Floor 0507 aboard a Mondasian colony ship, alongside fuel lines. Nardole used them to create explosions against the Cybermen. (TV: The Doctor Falls [+]Loading...["The Doctor Falls (TV story)"])

Weaponry[[edit] | [edit source]]

Fusion bombs were fearsome weapons of mass destruction. They were known to humans, with Adjudicator Medford once trying to level Gallifrey using fusion bombs, (PROSE: Cold Fusion [+]Loading...["Cold Fusion (novel)"]) as well as the Aubertides, (PROSE: Human Nature [+]Loading...["Human Nature (novel)"])) the Daleks, (PROSE: War of the Daleks [+]Loading...["War of the Daleks (novel)"]) and the Sontarans. (AUDIO: The Eleven Day Empire [+]Loading...["The Eleven Day Empire (audio story)"])

The Sontarans' handheld Cobalt Blue-based weaponry was also powered by fusion, which produced a characteristic residue called LM27. (AUDIO: Old Soldiers [+]Loading...["Old Soldiers (BBV audio story)"])

By the final days of the Time War, soldiers of the Time Lord military was issued with handheld fusion blasters. (PROSE: The Day of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The Day of the Doctor (novelisation)"], etc.)

Other technologies[[edit] | [edit source]]

Ivanov had a degree in fusion engineering. (PROSE: The Sorcerer's Apprentice [+]Loading...["The Sorcerer's Apprentice (novel)"])

The fusion booster was a highly advanced piece of equipment from Gallifrey. It was an unstable element, capable of an enormous conversion rate over very short periods. It was fuelled by anything that contains hydrogen atoms, including water. Omega transported one to Earth to build up energy to transfer with the Arc of Infinity. The Fifth Doctor sabotaged the booster and, therefore, foiled Omega's plan. (TV: Arc of Infinity [+]Loading...["Arc of Infinity (TV story)"])

Alexis Linfoot complained her back felt like it had been through a "45th century fusion grinder" after her flight to Stockbridge. (AUDIO: Plague of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Plague of the Daleks (audio story)"])
