Gareth Wolstencroft

Major Gareth Wolstencroft was an English officer for UNIT. He joined UNIT around the time of the first Auton invasion, where he witnessed whole squads of soldiers melted and fused by the alien weapons. The rampant death made Wolstencroft distrustful of the Doctor, who had been at the centre of this and other deadly invasions. While the Doctor miraculously survived and even regenerated, the soldiers he served with could not. Consequently, when Wolstencroft encountered the Eighth Doctor as a Major in Sweden in 1999, he was often at odds with him, even as they both worked together to stop the Dominion pocket universe from breaking into their own universe.
