The Giant Wasps were a species resembling Earth wasps artificially grown to enormous sizes by the Quarks.

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Quarks created Giant Wasps to attack the Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon on Gano, but the creatures attacked the Quarks instead. (COMIC: The Killer Wasps)

The Sixth Doctor encountered them on Earth, in 1999. (PROSE: Millennial Rites)

A film adaptation of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine, which according to the Sixth Doctor "hadn't even been bad enough to be good", featured Giant Wasps and Quarks. (PROSE: Synthespians™)

Jack Harkness once heard "unconfirmed rumours of a war between Quark rebels and Vespiforms", (WC: Vespiform) an alien species who also resembled giant wasps. (TV: The Unicorn and the Wasp) However, he did not know for sure whether they were accurate, and indeed the Wasps employed by the Quarks were shown to be artificially grown Earth wasps, or, at least, wasps the size of Earth wasps. Neither did they display any of the abilities of the Vespiform, such as telepathy or shapeshifting. (COMIC: The Killer Wasps)
