Ijayna was a Thal living on Skaro in the 22nd century. She was the daughter of Dexion, and engaged to the human John Ladiver.
When Bob Slater re-powered the dormant Daleks that had survived the war fifty years before, they disabled the control devices he had put on them and killed him. While that was happening, Ijayna was able to reconnect the main power cable which had been modified so it would drain the Daleks of energy. All the Daleks were thus disabled.
