Invisible ray torch

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

The invisible ray torch (COMIC: The Menace of the Monstrons) was the name ascribed to a disappearing ray invented by Brains of International Rescue. (COMIC: The Vanishing Ray)

Scientists across the world were excited by its discovery (COMIC: The Menace of the Monstrons) because they had been trying to perfect something like it for years prior to 2065. Its perceived effect was actually an optical illusion; the focal point of the concentrated beam was alien to the retina of the eye and so the mind could not register the object in the light.

Jeff Tracy sent Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward the torch to see if she could hang on to it against two powerful adversaries — the British Secret Service and the Hood — and thus determine whether she was capable of handling the British side of International Rescue. Despite both their best efforts, which included MI5 arresting and interrogating Penelope and Parker, as well as the Hood inadvertently stealing a normal torch and attempting to break into Creighton-Ward Manor, she was successful in keeping possession of the device and accepted Jeff's offer of the position of London agent. However, before Jeff and Brains left to return to Tracy Island, Lady Penelope used the torch one last time to erase the top secret incriminating file the British Secret Service had on her before she handed it over to them.
