Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Isobel was born in 1842. (PROSE: Welcome to Torchwood House [+]Loading...["Welcome to Torchwood House (feature)"]) She married Sir Robert MacLeish, and became Lady Isobel MacLeish.

In 1879, following the Brethen of St Catherine's takeover of Torchwood House, she tried to keep up morale among her staff when they were imprisoned by them faced the Haemovariform. After being freed by Rose Tyler and the Tenth Doctor, she led her maids and cook to the kitchens where they filled pans and buckets with mistletoe, after learning of its use as a repellent against the werewolf.

After her husband's sacrifice, Lady Isobel opted not to remain at Torchwood House, and it passed to the Crown. (TV: Tooth and Claw [+]Loading...["Tooth and Claw (TV story)"])

According to the Torchwood House website, the widowed Lady Isobel "travelled widely" before her death in 1893 - the same year Torchwood House was purchased by the Crown. (PROSE: Welcome to Torchwood House [+]Loading...["Welcome to Torchwood House (feature)"])

By another account, Isobel MacLeish was inspired by her husband's death to be an active agent in the fight against alien threats, becoming one of the founders of the Torchwood Institute. Into the 1890s, she acted as the director of Torchwood One in London. She would sometimes have polite meetings with the Paternoster Gang, despite being a fierce opponent of theirs. Unlike the Queen, Isobel did not harbour ill will towards the Doctor, only "reluctantly" pursuing them as part of her work at Torchwood.
