Kani
Matrona Kani was a senior servant of Lord Kiv's and an assistant to Crozier during his experiments.

On Thoros-Beta, Kani served the Mentors and was in charge of all of Lord Kiv's female servants, herself keeping a number of personal maids whom she demanded called her "Matrona". She was charged with providing Kiv with his medicine and was assigned to assist Crozier with his experiments into saving her master's life.
She assisted Crozier in using a pacification machine in an attempt to subdue the hostile Krontep King Yrcanos and also in using it on the Sixth Doctor, in an attempt to discover the truth of his killing the genetically engineered Raak in self-defence. During the experiment on Yrcanos, the two were interrupted, provoking her anger. She was initially disbelieving of the Raak's regression and recognised how damaging that was to Crozier.
Matrona came across Peri Brown, who had hidden in Kani's chambers in an attempt to elude the guards. Mistakenly assuming that Peri had escaped from having a control implant inserted, Matrona offered to allow her to join her maids and serve the Mentors without being processed. Kani explained that she preferred independent thought in those who served her. Peri agreed to serve Matrona, who warned that she would deny all knowledge of her if she was discovered. Kani then had Peri dressed in a smock and veil, and tasked her with taking care of the ambiotic fluid for Kiv. However, true to her word, Kani made no objection when Peri was indeed discovered and taken away for interrogation.
Matrona continued to assist Crozier as he carried out the temporary solution of transferring Kiv's brain into that of a dead Mentor fisherman. After tests on both the Doctor and the Alpha rebel Tuza showed neither was a suitable donor for Kiv, Matrona suggested examining Peri as an alternative. Kani and Crozier carried out tests on Peri, and quickly determined that she was suitable to become Kiv's new host. Following this, the Matrona strapped an unsuspecting Peri to an operating table and gagged her before she could protest. On Crozier's order, Kani then proceeded to shave Peri's head completely bald in preparation for the mind alteration experiment.
The Matrix showed the Matrona helping to successfully transfer Kiv's consciousness into Peri's brain before a horrified Yrcanos killed everyone in the room, (TV: Mindwarp) including Crozier and the Matrona. (PROSE: Mindwarp) However, this was found to be a lie, (TV: The Ultimate Foe) with the transfer actually having been a failure. Crozier was subsequently killed on Sil's order, while Kani's true fate was left unknown. (AUDIO: Antidote to Oblivion)

The Matrona was a handsome woman (PROSE: Mindwarp) with dark skin and eyes (TV: Mindwarp) and wide lips. Peri Brown found her imposing. (PROSE: Mindwarp)

The Matrona was an interested pupil, curious about Crozier's work and asking questions whilst assisting him. She could be angry, quickly snapping upon being interrupted, her voice having the effect of whiplash, but sometimes her soothing voice was all that could calm Lord Kiv. Her influence provoked Sil's jealousy. (PROSE: Mindwarp) She preferred to have some individuality in her household, leading her to keep some unprocessed maids. (TV: Mindwarp)
