Machine Time was the first short story in the Short Trips anthology Short Trips: Defining Patterns. It was written by George Ivanoff. It featured the Fourth Doctor.

Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Doctor answers a distress call. He finds a man connected to machines in a room full of machines. He has helped the man escape the machines before, but it has never been this bad. While he works to free the man, the man finally answers his questions.

The man is from a species that exists out of time and the universe, but he has taken physical form to stop the machines from taking over the universe.

When the Doctor has freed the man, he makes ready to leave. First he has to free the TARDIS from machines that have attached themselves to it. The man tells him that the next time they meet will probably be the last. The Doctor goes to prepare.
