The MMU was a university in Manchester where Paul Magrs spent several years teaching a novel writing course. His friends Jasmine and an unnamed woman also worked at the university.

According to Panda, Paul loved his job there, but there were various other things that made his job difficult. Panda didn't elaborate on this. He also added that many other people at the university didn't take Paul's job seriously. (PROSE: The Story of Fester Cat)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 2007, Paul graded various exams. Shortly after, he took a break to teach another writing course abroad, but was less than impressed when it was revealed he wasn't being paid for his work.

A short while prior, Paul had been at a cocktail party at the university, where a drunk poet told him that he wrote "populist" novels. To Paul, this translated as "trashy", which didn't sit well with him.

In 2012, Paul quit his job, after twenty years of teaching, at various universities including one in Norwich. (PROSE: The Story of Fester Cat)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

In The Story of Fester Cat, the university is only identified as "the MMU", the acronym of Manchester Metropolitan University.
