According to one account, as the planet Mondas became uninhabitable, the early Mondasian Cybermen organised a mass exodus from Mondas in "colossal spaceships or arks" such as (GAME: Worlds Apart ^[+]Loading...["Worlds Apart (video game)"]) the colony ship encountered by the Twelfth Doctor and his companions, although that ship was originally crewed by non-converted humanoids, survivors of whom would go on to seemingly "reinvent" the Cybermen.
