Max was the owner of a pub in Lannet where Alison Cheney worked as a barmaid in 2003. When the Ninth Doctor arrived, Max discouraged his barmaid from talking with the stranger about what was going on in the village. He was also one of the villagers that were under the control of the alien Shalka. (WC: Scream of the Shalka)
