Newbury & Hobbes
Newbury & Hobbes was a series of steampunk detective prose stories written by George Mann. Although not a Doctor Who spin-off, the series featured a number of crossovers with the Doctor Who universe. The series included six novels and several short stories collected in anthologies including The Casebook of Newbury & Hobbes.

The series followed the adventures of the eponymous Maurice Newbury and Veronica Hobbes. The series took place in a unique status quo with a steampunk bent, shown in Paradox Lost to be one valid timeline of N-Space.
Connections with the DWU[[edit] | [edit source]]
Although the characters of Newbury and Hobbes debuted outside the DWU, and as such the series cannot be considered a spin-off as we on this Wiki define the term, Mann viewed his DWU work as being part of the same universe as Newbury & Hobbes.[1] As such, many Newbury & Hobbes stories stories were de facto crossovers with Doctor Who, as they featured further adventures with Archibald Angelchrist, who debuted in the BBC New Series Adventures story Paradox Lost before appearing as a main character in The Executioner's Heart and featuring in several short stories in The Casebook of Newbury & Hobbes.
The Cabal of the Horned Beast, a villainous cult who first appeared in the Time Hunter stories The Severed Man and Child of Time, acted as the main antagonists in The Executioner's Heart and The Revenant Express. Peter Rutherford, who first appeared alongside Angelchrist in Mann's charity short story The Maharajah's Star (2011) and throughout The Casebook of Newbury & Hobbes, later appeared as a major character in the series The Ghost, which was also set in the Newbury & Hobbes continuity.[1][2]
Newbury and Hobbes themselves appeared in the Iris Wildthyme short story Party Fears Two.
Recurring character Charles Bainbridge appeared in George Mann's story The Reification of Hans Gerber in the Big Finish Productions Sherlock Holmes series, which was another series that sometimes crossed over with Doctor Who.
