Nicaraguan Canal
In 2067, the cruise liner President became jammed across the Nicaraguan Canal. On 24 August, the International Rescue craft Thunderbird 4 was pinned at the bottom the Canal after its pilot Gordon Tracy dived beneath the surface of the water to inspect the hull of the vessel. While reason told newspaper men that the weight of the President must crush the small submarine, the cahelium plus metal of TB 4 was reportedly strong enough to support the entire World Aquanaut Security Patrol fleet. While this happened, Nicaraguan troops moved into position ten miles away from the canal zone. If International Rescue failed to refloat the cruise liner and "straighten out" the rebels within twenty-four hours, the army were ordered to move into action. (PROSE: TB4 Trapped Under Liner)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
In the real world, a canal through Nicaragua was proposed in the early 20th century but rejected in favour of the Panama Canal. In 2013, Nicaragua approved plans from HKND to build the Nicaraguan Canal by 2063.
