Peter the Great believed that there was a part of America beyond Siberia and sent explorers to prove it. It took them more or less eight years to reach Alaska, and their Captain would only grant his crew ten hours ashore before turning back. Nevertheless, during those hours they found a blue jay, a bird they knew to have only lived in America, thus providing the positive proof that Peter the Great was right.
