- In the real world, the rent strikes took place in 1914-1915 in Glasgow and surrounding areas. They resulted in the Rents and Mortgage Interest Restriction Act 1915, which retroactively restricted rent increases during World War I.
- The story does not date the strikes precisely. Jamie Colquhoun writes about them in a letter dated July 2016. However, he learned about them from a letter he himself received from his sister, and it is stated neither when that was sent nor events of which period it described.
