The replicator was technology inside the Doctor's TARDIS that could copy clothing, such as Nyssa's outfit from Traken, which her wardrobe consisted entirely of copies of. When it didn't function properly, the stitching in the clothes was inferior to the original. Nyssa intended to repair the replicator and "teach" it about style. (AUDIO: The Toy)
