Sigma 150 was a planet held by the Rutan Horde. It existed at the border between human space and Rutan space, making it inaccessible to Sontarans without passing through human space. It was an important stragegic strongpoint, controlling the Rutans' graviton mines. Field Major Starn developed a strategy to bring a Sontaran army to Sigma 150 undetected, by taking over a human livestock-cloning ship and covertly growing a new Sontaran batch on the way to Sigma 150.
