Skaro's location

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Various accounts existed of the location of Skaro.

Solar system[[edit] | [edit source]]

Main article: Skaro system

Skaro was located in a solar system (TV: "The Ambush" [+]Part of The Daleks, Loading...{"namedep":"The Ambush (4)","1":"The Daleks (TV story)"}, et al.) named the "Skaro system". (PROSE: War of the Daleks [+]Loading...["War of the Daleks (novel)"]) It was the twelfth planet in its system. (TV: "The Ambush" [+]Part of The Daleks, Loading...{"namedep":"The Ambush (4)","1":"The Daleks (TV story)"}, PROSE: The Infinity Doctors [+]Loading...["The Infinity Doctors (novel)"]) By some accounts, the system had two suns. (PROSE: The Five-Leaf Clover [+]Loading...["The Five-Leaf Clover (short story)"], The Stranger [+]Loading...["The Stranger (short story)"]) Skaro's nearest neighbour was a planet called Alvega. (COMIC: The Amaryll Challenge [+]Loading...["The Amaryll Challenge (comic story)"])

Spatial region[[edit] | [edit source]]

Some accounts indicated Skaro was located in "hyperspace", (COMIC: Genesis of Evil [+]Loading...["Genesis of Evil (comic story)"]) a name which, by at least one contemporary account, referred in this context to an empty region of deep space, (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Daleks [+]Loading...["Doctor Who and the Daleks (short story)"]) although later accounts used the name to refer to an alter-dimensional plane. (TV: Frontier in Space [+]Loading...["Frontier in Space (TV story)"], etc.)

Some accounts indicated that, while Skaro originated in the "dark unexplored regions of outer space", it was a wandering "mystery planet". It moved into Earth's Solar System in the 25th century, becoming located at an elliptical orbit around Earth's Sun. During this time, its orbit crossed that of Uranus and occasionally put it in the vicinity of Jupiter and Saturn. The Daleks seemingly had nothing to do with this movement, and, indeed, were frightened by the fact that Skaro's new position put it within the reaches of Earth's expansionist space empire. (COMIC: Invasion of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Invasion of the Daleks (comic story)"]) Two hundred years after Skaro's migration, the Solar System once more only had nine planets (COMIC: The Mechanical Planet [+]Loading...["The Mechanical Planet (comic story)"]) and Skaro was in its binary star system. (PROSE: The Five-Leaf Clover [+]Loading...["The Five-Leaf Clover (short story)"])

By some accounts, Skaro was permanently located in a galaxy. By some accounts, it was in the Seventh Galaxy. (PROSE: The Seventh Galaxy [+]Loading...["The Seventh Galaxy (feature)"], The Infinity Doctors [+]Loading...["The Infinity Doctors (novel)"]) By another account, it was located in the Eighth Galaxy. (AUDIO: The Destroyers [+]Loading...["The Destroyers (audio story)"]) Another account indicated it was in the Milky Way. (AUDIO: Davros [+]Loading...["Davros (audio story)"]) According to one account, Dr Who was driven to travel back to the 2150 Dalek invasion of Earth because he had seen records on the Earth of the year 3000 of an alien invasion at that time. These records described the invaders are originating from a planet designated M-1, which orbited the star Deneb, (COMIC: Daleks, invasión a la Tierra año 2150 [+]Loading...["Daleks, invasión a la Tierra año 2150 (comic story)"])

Location relative to Earth[[edit] | [edit source]]

Most accounts placed Skaro as a long way away from Earth. By one account, it was nine galaxies away from Earth. (COMIC: Legacy of Yesteryear [+]Loading...["Legacy of Yesteryear (comic story)"]) Another account, using the language of island-universes, described Skaro as being "in the next universe but one". (PROSE: Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks [+]Loading...["Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks (novelisation)"]) Another stated that Skaro was "a trillion miles away" from Earth. (TV: Remembrance of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Remembrance of the Daleks (TV story)"]) Another stated that Skaro was "half a universe away" from Earth. (COMIC: The Planet of the Daleks [+]Loading...["The Planet of the Daleks (comic story)"])

TV Century 21 gave several accounts of the distance in lightyears between Skaro and Earth. An article written during the Dalek invention of space travel described the planets as being "many millions of lightyears" apart. (PROSE: Tempest Awarded V.M. [+]Loading...["Tempest Awarded V.M. (short story)"]) Alvega, the closest planet to Skaro, (COMIC: The Amaryll Challenge [+]Loading...["The Amaryll Challenge (comic story)"]) was described at the time of its destruction as having existed in a "space area" 2000 lightyears from Earth.
