Snowman in Manhattan was the fifteenth short story in the Short Trips anthology Short Trips: The Ghosts of Christmas. It was written by John Binns. It featured the First Doctor, Vicki and Steven Taylor.

Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

Alan Wood is working as the manager of a department store at Christmas. He is called to check on the new Santa Claus, the Doctor, who isn't acting very Santa-like. Santa's assistant, Steven Taylor, explains to Alan that they need to check out the display of Snowy Boots toys. He mentions that they had been tracking one that had fallen down a manhole.

To Alan's astonishment, one of the Snowy Boots comes alive and escapes. No one else, except the Doctor and Steven, saw it. The Doctor and Steven take off after it.

Later, after the store has closed, Alan comes across Vicki Pallister. They both see the Snowy Boots, which has grown to a metre tall. It escapes.

A few days later, Alan encounters the Doctor, Steven and Vicki as they continue their search for the Snowy Boots. Steven suggests Alan help them, since he's the only one aside from them who can see it. They enter the manhole where the toy disappeared several days ago. In the sewer is some green slime, which the Doctor says is an alien bacteria.

At the New Year's Eve parade, Alan once again finds the trio. This time, the Snowy Boots is twenty metres tall. The Doctor has prepared a gel that happens to be in the shape of several snowballs. Alan helps the trio throw snowballs at the Snowy Boots. It explodes.
