Barry Gray was the composer for series 1 of Space: 1999. Among the show's writers were Pip and Jane Baker, Johnny Byrne, Terrance Dicks and David Weir. Byrne drew inspiration from Guardian of Piri, which he script-edited, for Warriors of the Deep.

Space: 1999 starred, among others, the Doctor Who actors Catherine Schell, Prentis Hancock, Zienia Merton and Alibe Parsons.

Patrick Troughton, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Bernard Cribbins, Geoffrey Bayldon, Brian Blessed, Carolyn Seymour, Isla Blair, Philip Madoc, Peter Bowles, Julian Glover, Bernard Kay, David Prowse, Annie Lambert, Shane Rimmer, Sam Dastor, Alibe Parsons, David Jackson, Robert Rietti, Roy Marsden, Jeremy Young, James Snell, John Shrapnel, Sarah Douglas, Godfrey James, John Standing, Oliver Cotton, Nicholas Young, John Alkin, Max Faulkner, Lloyd McGuire, Brendan Price, Tony Osoba and Susan Jameson guest starred in the series.

The backdrop used for Eden in Nightmare of Eden was reused from the Space: 1999 episode The Full Circle, where it represented the planet Retha.
