Appearance
Quarks are cuboid in shape with a sphere on top two spikes come from opposite sides of this sphere and one comes out on top. They have rectangle shaped compartments on their chests where their cuboid gun folds inside. The spore spikes are red along with the rim attaching them all. The rest of the sphere is black and the body is grey like normal metal. The robots feet are large pieces of metal in the shape of a block; poles attach these to the body. Quarks communicate with bleeps.
Abilities
Quarks are able to use their guns to:
*Kill
*Stun
*Electrocute
*Communicate
*Power objects
Quarks can collect data from a survey just by turning 360 degrees. Quarks emit warning signals when tripped or covered. The Dominators have sybold representing each Quark on a wall, the sybol for the corrosponding Quark flashes when that Quark is destroyed.
History
Quarks were originally the robot servants of the Dominators. The Doctor and his companions encountered some of them on Dulkis. (DW: The Dominators).
After being reunited with Jamie McCrimmon in Scotland, the Doctor defeated an attempted Quark invasion of Earth. (TVC: Invasion of the Quarks).
Shortly afterwards, the Quarks used their Giant Wasps to attack the Doctor and Jamie on the planet Gano. (TVC: The Killer Wasps).
On an unnamed jungle world, the Quarks attacked the Doctor and Jamie again, causing his TARDIS to be buried under rubble. (TVC: Jungle of Doom)
In 1971, the Quarks caused the Martha series of robots, which were invented by the Doctor to do housework, to turn against humanity as a prelude to their invasion. (TVC: Martha the Mechanical Housemaid)
In 2044, the Quarks arrived on the planet Hekton to kill the Doctor, but were defeated by the human colonists. (TVC: The Duellists)
In 2053, a Quark pursued the Doctor when he participated in an automobile race on Earth. (TVC: Death Race)
The Doctor and Mel also defeated the Quarks and their Giant Wasps. (MA: Millennial Rites)
Notes
*Since the Dominators were not mentioned in the Quarks' later appearances, it can be assumed that they eventually left them to form their own empire.
stuff
*The Quarks where originally designed by Mervyn Haisman and Henry Lincoln but when the design was changed against their liking the project was handed to Norman Ashby. The copyrights to the Quarks were undecided and so the Quarks never returned to TV but made numerous comic appearences.
*The Quarks may be at war with the Vespiforms. This is probably a mix-up between the Vespiforms and the Quark's giant wasps. The Killer Wasps was shown in Captain Jack's Monster Files backing this up. (Captain Jack's Monster Files)
Return of the Quarks?
*The Quarks were set to return to Doctor Who for The Five Doctors but were removed from the script at an early stage and replaced by the Raston Warrior Robot. The Quarks appear on the cover of the Five Doctor's VHS as this was not changed to match the TV swap.
