I have this picture that he saw himself, so far beyond despair, so far beyond evil, giving in and becoming all that he hates, destroying everything, on purpose, ''because he has come to believe it was the right thing to do.'' Moreover, his reaction implies that it would be easy - so easy - to do, especially if he loses the balance of empathy and compassion that he uses his companions to refresh.
