:::Did the Doctor have his psycis paper?  If not he may have found it difficult getting work without ID, though supplying ID was not a legal requirement in 1969 for obtaining work in the UK as it is now.  Martha of course masy have had trouble explaining her ID... what with the dates or colour pictures )(yes colour pictures existed in 1969 but not on ID of any kind that I can think of.
