Returning to his cell, he and Benny investigated the bizarre occurrences on Gallifrey and deduced that the Time Lords were under the influence of the [[Now (species)|Now]], pan-dimensional parasites. The Doctor devised a way to force the Time Lords to regenerate using the [[Crown of Rassilon]] to purge the Now, but realised it would kill all of the Now as well as many Time Lords in the process and backed out of the plan.
