Francis Pearson

(Redirected from Sperano)

Francis Pearson was infamous as one of the worst playwrights in the history of England. After rituals summoned a creature known as the "Mimic" or "Managra" to Earth, Pearson merged with the creature and became "Doctor Sperano". As Sperano, Pearson became a faceless creature with the ability to warp reality through plays and assume nigh-flawless disguises of various figures (including Pope Lucian) simply by wearing different masks.

His works were so exceptionally bad that all extant copies were burned in March 1610 by a mob enraged at his latest play. In September of that year, Pearson met Edward Kelley in Prague, then visited the home of Elizabeth Bathory. The following year, the three of them conducted black magic rituals that brought the Mimic to Earth. Horrified by the rituals, Pearson fled back to England, but was pursued by the Mimic. On 29 June 1613, Pearson, jealous at the success of William Shakespeare, set fire to the Globe Theatre, seemingly convinced that Shakespeare had stolen all his best lines when in reality Shakespeare had been kind enough to let Pearson ape his own work. He was later attacked and consumed by the Mimic and became known as Persona/Doctor Sperano.

Sperano reawakened in the 31st century, during the time of the Overcities. He became one of the "Concocters" of the land of Europa and helped to shape its environs - banning all other playwrights from his home era out of sheer jealousy and wrath. Using the powers of Managra (and the stolen Time Lord knowledge within Managra), Sperano created most of its fantastical advanced technology within Europa and then went into hiding as a simple playwright for two centuries.

For two centuries, Sperano hid in the shadows. During this time, he converted the Dashwood family into vampires after they stole his quill. The surviving member of the family (Miles Dashing) killed his family due to this. As revenge, Sperano converted his love into a twisted mirror of Elizabeth Bathory named "Lady Incarnadine".

Right before the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane-Smith arrived in Europa, Sperano held a play in the castle of Prince Ludvig that led to the death of Pope Julian. With the help of Cardinal Agostini, Sperano began manipulating the politics of the Vatican in preparation for "Thirteenth Night" by pretending to be the slain Pope. He also kidnapped Sarah and made her into "Lady Intangerine" for a brief moment before she and Miles' love were rescued by Miles and a Reprise of Casanova. As Sperano began his Thirteenth Night play, the Doctor crashed the event and trapped Sperano in his "magical carriage" (a mock-TARDIS) as it flew into the Time Vortex. Before Sperano could be atomized by the time winds, he merged with the imploding carriage. (PROSE: Managra [+]Loading...["Managra (novel)"])
