Talk:A Little Help from My Friends (comic story)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Original printing[[edit source]]

This stories earlier-than-intended debut creates a bit of an issue in original printing coverage. Shall we be treating TFTTY3 1 as being the "original printing" for part one, or should we just ignore that detail outside of story notes? WaltK 16:24, January 3, 2020 (UTC)

Capitalization[[edit source]]

Should the title of this story not be A Little Help from My Friends (capital "My")? – N8 (/👁️) 16:08, January 4, 2020 (UTC)

Indeed, this a reference to "With a Little Help from My Friends" by The Beatles, which became an anthem of Woodstock. LegoK9 19:37, January 11, 2020 (UTC)
How does the actual story capitalize it? Shambala108 19:57, January 11, 2020 (UTC)
The title of the story is in all caps. WaltK 20:17, January 11, 2020 (UTC)
This is why I hate comic stories. Shambala108 20:33, January 11, 2020 (UTC)

If it's in all caps in all instances it's written out by Titan Comics, in print or online, the magazine itself will not help us. A quick search shows me the convention to capitalise personal pronouns in titles, on the basis of them not being prepositions or conjunctions. This is in favour of capitalising "My", as suggested. Where it's not immediately clear how best to "represent the name of a thing or a story faithfully", we ought to turn next to which option is correct in British English.

Further sources for the above: [1] (Chicago), [2] (Chicago), [3] (MLA), [4] ("According to most style guides that use title case"), [5] (Chicago cited again). There seems to be broad consensus, based on a cursory Google search anyway, that this is the way to go in most style guides. As of January 2020, our page on Tardis:Capital letters offers no comment on what to do when a title is given only in all caps.

My gut instinct would have been either the current form (only capitalise nouns) or capitalise everything, e.g. A Little Help From My Friends. A Little Help from My Friends looks plain odd to me. However, in this case, if it's more like citing the "proper name" of a preexisting thing, I think the rename proposal is sound. --Scrooge MacDuck 22:07, January 11, 2020 (UTC)
As SOTO says above, we should go with the correct grammatical title, which happens to coincide with the name of the song, but we would not generally name a story title after something out of universe just because it's a reference. And weirdly or not, possessive pronouns are capitalized while prepositions are not. Shambala108 22:12, January 11, 2020 (UTC)

The page has now been moved, as per the reasons outlined by myself and Shambala (and not because this also happens to be the capitisation on the Beatles song, which has no bearing here).
