Talk:Content warnings

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Cleanup[[edit source]]

This page is not policy, rather it should be like canon in that it should give some examples of why this topic was so vast and complicated. It shouldn't contain any tables or anything like that, as all of that was unresolved in the discussion.

The whole layout and content of the page may need completely overhauling, but I wanted something down 'on the page' to begin to work from.

Unlike our other pages this is both about the DW universe and the wiki and how it covers this, but should still maintain a neutral POV regarding this topic.

Alternatively the content on this page may still not strike the right balance and may be better not existing, I did consider tagging the page with a delete tag as well, but left it as cleanup for now. --Tangerineduel / talk 05:42, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

So, is it my understanding that this entire page consists of our plan on how to enact consensus? It doesn't really feel like a content warning system, it feels like a rant about why we don't need content warnings. The page feels particularly apologetic in a way I don't like as well, it speaks of topics like racism with this offhanded nature that implies it all has to due with shifting perspective. I think Talons was offensive in 1977 too. OS25🤙☎️ 06:09, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
It was my general understanding that the forum post was closed as unresolved, not closed in opposition. Surely it would make more sense for the topic to be revisited when a more solid game plan or pitch is possible. I do not mean to challenge your judgement on closing the thread because it was the right move, but I simply disagree that we can only implement a system like this if someone other than us invents it first, and I disagree even further about having a page discussing the ongoing debate. It feels like a violation of T:NO SELF REF.
As it stands, I thing this page needs a major overhaul. If we need an article about the strife of needing to wikify offensive content, can't we just say that? Why is "Cultural changes" used as a code for "That episode where an actor performs in yellow-face"? Is it such an alien concept to say "Some Doctor Who universe content is offensive, but still necessitates coverage"? OS25🤙☎️ 06:43, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
I agree with your insights.
It's not really a page I wanted to write, and I tried to put it together to cover some of the points raised in a neutral way, with some outside sources. The more I look at it the more I'm not sure it should exist, and am happy to delete it as I said above I almost created it with a delete tag already in place. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:46, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

External links[[edit source]]

Why is this page linking to a wiki that describes any negative depiction of christianity as "This can, for someone religious, turn an enjoyable episode into a saddening and offensive waste of 45 minutes.". It doesn't seem like a genuine trigger warning wiki of depictions of racism, homophobia, sexism or transphobia, but instead a list of instances where atheists said something. I think linking to this wiki is a bad decision. 81.108.82.15talk to me 14:26, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
