Talk:Infinity Doctor

Recent rename[edit source]

Correct me if I am wrong, but the previous name, "The Doctor (The Infinity Doctors universe)" was in line with Tardis:Disambiguating other realities. Amorkuz 22:12, October 30, 2017 (UTC)

Yes, from my understanding of the policy this page shouldn't have been moved.
It's part of an overall problem where some users are using the speedy rename tag in cases where the rename isn't obvious to the admins that will be performing the move. This page had a speedy rename tag, and User:Doug86 moved it. (I've been trying to clean up the speedy renames, and specifically avoided this one because I didn't know if it deserved the speedy tag or not.)
I think that we might want to consider requiring users to give a reason for the speedy renames on the talk pages so admins who aren't familiar with the articles in question have enough information to decide if the article deserves a speedy rename tag, a rename tag, or no tag. Yes, supplying speedy renames with (short) reasons is a very good idea. The situation I ran into several times was when a speedy rename had been placed because of a conflict with a character from a newly released story, and the page for this character had not yet been created. In such cases, to understand what is going on, the admin must either be psychic or have in-depth knowledge of the exact new story that is never mentioned in the speedy rename tag. I'll freely admit that I'd forgotten about T:DAB OTHER when I put up the rename template; I was just going off of the precedent of The Doctor (Auld Mortality), Third Doctor (Exile), etc. (And my complaints against DAB OTHER in general still apply, of course, but T:BOUND is T:BOUND.) For a while now, I've tried to catalogue my rename reasons on my user page; officialising such a thing in regards to the Talk page would make a lot of sense, I think. – N8 16:12, October 31, 2017 (UTC)

Alternate?[edit source]

Okay, so I'm looking at the page and it says, "in an alternate universe", but on a lot of the character's pages, it states that it takes place in the main? Like, I know it doesn't fit with the continuity, but when has Doctor Who ever? Never Forget The Day The 456 Arrived 13:14, June 8, 2020 (UTC)

I'm not sure on the precise details, but here are two threads which have some relevance to your question:

Infobox image from Miranda comic[edit source]

Hello, in my recent big rejig of this page (which, I guess I'll see how its received, might be too big), I added an image from the Miranda comic to this page's infobox. My reasoning for this is that three of the Four surviving elementals seen in Parkin's dual descriptions of the Elementals in Miranda (comic story) and The Gallifrey Chronicles (novel) unambiguously look identical to characters from The Infinity Doctors, such that I think they could and should function as infobox images for these characters (with the exception of the Magistrate, currently merged with the War King, who has a nice infobox at the moment).

A compelling argument for not using these images thusly might be that, since the elementals are deeply tied to the post-War universe and the Miranda comic is firmly in the shadow of The Emperor, we should not use these images because they better represent the versions of these characters which are members of the Imperial Family. I think there's some truth there, and obviously the current infobox image of Man with the Rosette should stay as is, but I guess I'm saying that I dont see a problem in using the same image on different pages for distinct versions of the same character (Emperor/Infinity Doc, Man with the Rosette/Magistrate) because I believe the visions of the four elementals as a group in both comic and novel have a liminality to them such that they should be considered appearances by both the Emperor and the Infinity Doctor, etc.

Just throwing this out there to start the ball bouncing on my own court, haha. I'm interested in hearing others' opinions. CoT ? 19:16, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
